Diesel price moves higher

The national average retail price of a gallon of diesel continued its surge this week. The price gained 4.3 cents to $2.904, according to the Department of Energy.


Unemployment rate unchanged as 36,000 jobs lost, trucking loses 4,300

Goodyear names finalists for 27th Highway Hero Award

Journalists from the trucking industry are now voting on the finalists, who will be featured March 25 at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky. One driver will be named the 2009 Goodyear North America Highway Hero at the Truck Writers of North America Annual Banquet and receive a $10,000 U.S. Savings Bond, a plaque and a specially designed ring; the other finalists will receive a $5,000 U.S. Savings Bond and plaque.


ATA suit vs. LA port to begin April 20

The Port of Los Angeles and the American Trucking Associations will square off in a civil suit in federal court beginning April 20 over driver classification aspects of the port’s drayage emissions program.


Senate votes unemployment benefits, highway funds

“I am so pleased to report that the Senate acted late tonight to break its logjam, extending the Highway Trust Fund for another 30 days,” said Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on DOT’s Web site.


HOS listening session scheduled for Mid-America show

This listening session at MATS will be held on Friday, March 26, beginning at 10 a.m. local time and ending at 6 p.m., or earlier, depending on participation.


States may collect 2010 UCR fees

Although states are now allowed to collect 2010 Unified Carrier Registration Program fees using the 2009 fee structure, few are expected to do it.


Oil rises above $80 a barrel; diesel supply falls

Inventories of distillate fuel, which include diesel and heating oil, fell by 900,000 barrels to 151.8 million barrels for the week ended Feb. 26. Analysts expected a decline of 975,000 barrels.
